The star of the national handball team, Linn Blohm, has suffered a nightmare injury. She has torn her cruciate ligament and now faces a long road back.

The injury occurred during the very first training session of the year, as the Swedish player herself explained on Instagram.

"I immediately felt something was wrong with my knee. It will take time until I'm back on the court again and it hurts a lot. Mentally it has been difficult and I know it will be up and down," she writes.

Exactly how long Blohm will be out is still unclear, but a cruciate ligament injury usually means a rehabilitation period of between nine and twelve months.

Despite the heavy blow, the 33-year-old is trying to look ahead.

"I will do my best to come back stronger and as quickly as possible."

Linn Blohm is one of Sweden's most distinguished handball players in modern times. She has 199 international caps and has represented Sweden in three Olympic Games, six European Championships and five World Championships.
