A shot from Danish forward Nikolaj Ehlers in the eleventh minute struck McNabb in the face, and the 35-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment, according to ESPN.

"It looked scary. It's not something you want to see. Hope he's okay. We haven't seen him yet, but hopefully he's okay," said McNabb's teammate, Brett Howden, immediately after the game.

Vegas coach John Tortorella had no comment on McNabb's injury status after the game. The defenseman is a cultural icon for the team and one of only three players remaining on the roster since Vegas entered the NHL nine years ago.

Vegas seemed able to cope without McNabb, who had three assists in the first game of the Finals, but after a late push from Carolina the game went from 2–0 to 3–3 in less than ten minutes and was decided in overtime.

Once there, Seth Jarvis took advantage of a power play after 3:56 of overtime and scored to make it 4–3 for Carolina with a batted shot. This evened the best-of-seven series at 1–1.

"That's what I love about this team. We always come back," said Seth Jarvis.

The next game will be played Sunday night in Las Vegas.
