Max Lindholm, Noah Hasa and Jere Innala scored within 1:01 at the end of the first period.
The 1–0 lead became 4–0, and Djurgården was overwhelmed and knocked out.
The weak newcomer Djurgården had only scored one goal in their last 14 games and the start of the home match against league leaders Frölunda was not optimal either.
Early match penalty
Håvard Salsten incurred a match penalty already after 1:28 for a tackle to the head of Frölunda's Arttu Ruotsalainen, who had to be sent off.
In the five-on-three, Henrik Tömmernes scored to make it 1–0.
Djurgården changed goalkeeper after the first period when Magnus Hellberg had to leave in favor of Daniel Marmenlind.
Despite the result, Djurgården were not without chances in play.
But the difference in efficiency was striking.
While Djurgården wasted their chances - Frölunda goalkeeper Lasse Johansson once again had a great game - the visitors were highly efficient.
It was fun to watch. We had fantastic attacking play, lots of power-play time that was well deserved. A fantastic match, says Lasse Johansson to TV4 Play.
“Not good enough”
Three of the goals came on the power play, while Djurgården missed a two-minute five-on-three in the second period when the team had the chance to get closer after JVM hero Anton Frondell had reduced the lead to 1–4.
Max Lindholm, formerly of AIK, was one of Frölunda's match winners with two goals, both on the power play.
Djurgården coach Robert Kimby thought, despite the big loss, that there were positive things.
The numbers are going to be big, but there are a lot of good things, as stupid as that sounds. I think we have good aggression, we skate a lot and have good intensity. But then losing 1–6 is not good enough.
