Sunday, Sweden qualified for the European Championship for the first time in twelve years.
Pelle Larsson, who normally plays for the NBA team Miami Heat, followed the drama against Montenegro and now hopes to be able to wear the blue-yellow jersey.
It would have meant a lot. I was a little boy when I watched on TV, so it would be cool to help out and it would be huge. I've longed for it, says the 23-year-old who last played for the national team in 2022.
For the dream to become a reality, it requires Miami to release the Swedish basketball star – where there is a limit to how many days he can be available.
You don't want to end up in a situation where you use too many preparation days and then can't finish the tournament. We need to go through that carefully, says national team manager Lars Johansson to SVT.
But he believes in a solution – which Larsson's agent Olle Håkansson also does.
Miami Heat looks very positively on him playing the European Championship, he says to SVT.
Pelle Larsson has played 36 matches for Miami during the season and averaged over twelve minutes of playing time per match.
The European Basketball Championship will take place between August 27 and September 14 in Poland, Finland, Latvia, and Cyprus.
