She fell asleep surrounded by her family.
She had no pain and we were with her until the end. After an explosive and active life, she got a calm and dignified end, says her daughter Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten to TT.
The children's book expert Marianne von Baumgarten-Lindberg's cultural merit list is long. She started her career as a journalist and in 1977, she started the Children's Book Club.
Selected books
She founded and ran the Children's Bookstore and was one of the driving forces behind the magazine Opsis Children's Culture, and was involved when Junibacken on Djurgården in Stockholm started.
Through her great commitment to children's literature, she has meant a lot to children and families, both with the Children's Book Club she started, and during all the years she was involved in the board of the Reading Movement, says its chairman Elisabet Reslegård.
Marianne von Baumgarten-Lindberg has, among other things, been involved in selecting many of the children's and picture books that have been distributed at McDonald's over several decades in collaboration with the Reading Movement. In 2019, 22.9 million books were distributed, selected by Marianne von Baumgarten-Lindberg.
Editor-in-Chief and Royal Medalist
In 2016, she was awarded the King's Medal in the 8th size with a blue ribbon for "outstanding contributions to Swedish children's literature".
In 2021, she was awarded the Swedish Publishers' Association's Honorary Prize, where her contributions and impact on the world of children's books were described as "indelible".
She also managed to be editor-in-chief for We Parents, Femina, All About Books, and Riddarposten. She continued to be active in children's culture, even after turning 80.
It can sometimes be too much work, but it's so exciting and enriching to work with children's culture, she said to DN in connection with her 80th birthday.
