The decision to advise against travel to the La Paz region was made on Monday and is in effect until further notice.

"There are sporadic blockages at the gates of El Alto Airport in La Paz," the Swedish embassy wrote on its website on Friday.

Furthermore, travelers were urged to completely avoid road travel in Bolivia. "There are over 60 roadblocks throughout the country, and these conflicts could become violent," the Swedish embassy said.

There are three levels of advice. Advice against non-essential travel is the lowest.
