The security situation in Mali has deteriorated in recent weeks. The capital Bamako is more or less under siege by jihadists, in what is seen as an attempt to starve out the country's military junta.
Since the beginning of October, the extremist group JNIM has attacked fuel transports and there is general concern that the group may attack the city. The lack of fuel has also affected air traffic in the country, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Britain and the United States sent their embassy staff home from Mali at the end of October. Sweden closed the remaining embassy in Bamako last year.
