Season three takes place a few years after the second season, amid the war between the elves and Sauron, thousands of years before the events of "The Lord of the Rings." Sauron is trying to make the ring that will give him the power to rule the world.
The series, which premiered in 2022, is one of Amazon's most successful to date. In a press release, the company states that it has attracted 185 million viewers worldwide and that the series is a strong contributor to subscriptions for the streaming service Prime Video.
