The golf tour, founded in 2022 with money from Saudi Arabia, hoped that playing 54 holes over three days would attract more spectators. But when it continues to have poor attendance, and at the same time is not seen as a full-fledged golf tour, it is taking the step to traditional competitions over four days and 72 holes.
According to Golf Digest, the tour hopes that this will pave the way for LIV Tour players to be able to earn points on the world rankings.
"This is a victory for the league and for the players," says Jon Rahm, one of the tour's biggest poster names, in a press release seen by Golf Digest.
“Going to 72 holes is the logical step to strengthen the competitions, test ourselves to the fullest and give what the fans want.”
The LIV Tour season starts in Saudi Arabia in February.
