King Carl Gustaf began a state visit to Singapore on Tuesday morning without Queen Silvia by his side.
The Queen was struck by a severe cold before departure and has had to cancel her participation, the Royal Palace announced on Monday.
The King, accompanied by Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard and Infrastructure and Housing Minister Andreas Carlson, was welcomed by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
Awaiting the King are, among other things, a visit to Singapore's botanical garden, where a special hybrid orchid is being developed and named after him.
About 50 Swedish companies, authorities, educational institutions, and other organizations are part of the business delegation accompanying the trip.
This is the first state visit between Sweden and Singapore, but the King has made official visits to the island nation previously.
