Sweden's labor market is cooling down, and according to the Swedish Statistical Office (SCB), there were a total of 147,500 vacant jobs in the second quarter of 2025, which is a decrease of 13% compared to the same period last year

There is an urgent need in certain areas, as there were 92,800 positions where employers wanted immediate access.

Industries with Labor Shortages

The largest number of vacant jobs was found in the healthcare, care, and social services sector, which has long been experiencing a shortage. Other industries that stand out are rental services, property management services, and travel services, where there are many vacant positions.

Geographical Concentration and Differences Between Sectors

More than half of the vacant jobs were found in the regions of Stockholm, Västra Götaland, and Skåne, but relative to the population, Västernorrland County stood out and topped the list. Of the 147,500 jobs, 114,400 were in the private sector and 28,700 in the public sector.

Labor Immigration numbers

There are no recent numbers but figures from the SCB, the Migration Agency, and the report "Work in Sweden" confirm that in recent years, labor immigration has been at a level of between 25,000 and 30,000 formal permits per year.

For those looking for a job or wanting to move to Sweden and start working, this is a signal that there are jobs available, but selectively and not in all industries.
