The image of Elvira and Hanna is worth more than medals

It became a gold, two silvers and a bronze for Sweden at the World Championship in biathlon. But it was the performances and team spirit that the national team coach praised afterwards. The image of Hanna and Elvira at the finish, it's worth more than medals, says Johannes Lukas.

The gold medalist in the mass start, Elvira Öberg, waited for her sister Hanna Öberg, who came last, to give her a hug before she herself started celebrating – Johannes Lukas thinks this is greater than clinking gold, silver, and bronze.

It's about team spirit, which he believes is perhaps the most important weapon for succeeding in competitions during a long championship when you've already been on the road for many weeks.

What I take with me from the World Championship, and what we should be incredibly proud of, is that we maintain our energy and joy throughout all seven weeks we were away. If everyone is tired and low, we wouldn't be standing here with World Championship gold, he says.

We're good at recharging, which applies to both athletes and leaders.

The Girls' World Championship

He says that team spirit will be needed even next year when it's the Olympic Games. Just like the World Championship this year, the Olympic Games will take place at high altitude in Antholz, Italy, which will require the same buildup as before the World Championship with a long high-altitude camp after a few intense competition weeks. This means being on the road for seven weeks.

It was the Swedish girls' World Championship, they took all four medals.

If you're going to be realistic, they (the boys) haven't been in as many decisive situations as many times during the season, says Lukas, thinking about the fact that the boys were eliminated in the World Championship.

What we should take with us is that despite poor preparations, we still stand there and shoot for medals on the last day.

Not Approved

Both Jesper Nelin and Martin Ponsiluoma had medal positions before the last shooting in the mass start, but missed.
