Margaret Atwood has criticized the book ban and urged people to get a copy of "The Handmaid's Tale" before "it is publicly burned on a book bonfire", writes BBC.

Atwood also reveals that since her literary classic no longer fits in Alberta's schools, she has written a new short story for 17-year-olds about two "very, very good children".

"They never picked their noses and did not have bowel movements or pimples. They grew up and married each other and had five perfect children without ever having had sex", says Atwood in a comment about the satirical short story.

It was in July that Alberta's Department of Education ordered school libraries to remove "material with explicit sexual content" by October 1 at the latest.

Other books that are also banned in the Canadian province are George Orwell's "1984", Maya Angelou's "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" and Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World".
