Six spectators stormed the 18th green and sprayed paint on it as the PGA Tour event in Connecticut was about to conclude.
World number one Scottie Scheffler was preparing for what could have been the winning putt when the green invaders launched an attack from several directions. The police intervened and managed to apprehend the saboteurs while the players in the lead group looked on in astonishment.
A little later, play resumed, and South Korean Tom Kim was able to make a birdie, forcing a playoff. However, Scheffler was the strongest and decided the outcome immediately on the first hole – his sixth tournament win this year.
Ludvig Åberg had a tough Sunday on the golf course. With 71 strokes, one over par, in the final round, the Swedish star fell to a tied 27th place.
Åberg finished with a total of eleven under par, eleven strokes behind the duo in second place.
