In 1985, a duty to inform about HIV was introduced, meaning people infected with the disease are obliged to inform their sexual partners.
Now it seems to be disappearing.
An investigation submitted to Forssmed on Thursday proposes that the obligation be removed.
97.5 percent of HIV cases in Sweden are treated and are not considered sexually transmissible.
You are not contagious if you are on well-functioning treatment, says investigator Jan Albert.
According to Forssmed, there is broad support for removing the information obligation.
There is no reason to maintain a system that mostly perpetuates stigma, Jan Albert says.
