In the referral to the Council on Legislation, it is also proposed that it should be punishable to sell laughing gas to persons under 18 years of age.

It is extremely urgent that we get a stop to this completely unregulated, almost explosive, situation we have, where young people, around the clock, can get large deliveries of laughing gas at the cost of very large health risks, says Minister for Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD) to the radio.

Those who violate the regulations shall be liable to fines or imprisonment for up to six months.

It will only be possible to buy laughing gas if you are over 18 years old, in very small quantities for use in cooking, says Forssmed.

There is broad political consensus that measures are needed to address the abuse of laughing gas. The referral to the Council on Legislation is expected to be approved on Thursday.
