The goalie kept a clean sheet again

No luck for a continuation – but Luleå's goalkeeper Frida Axell won and kept a clean sheet despite the negative message. It's always fun to keep a clean sheet, she says to TV4 Play after the 3–0 win over Djurgården.

Axell leads the goalie league in SDHL, the women's hockey league, and took her 13th win in as many matches in the home game against Djurgården.

Axell has also kept a clean sheet for twelve consecutive periods.

Despite the brilliant statistics, the 23-year-old recently received the news that she will not have her contract extended after this season.

The fourth season in Luleå will be the last for the Gothenburg-born goalie, who has taken three Swedish Championship titles, but is still the second goalie behind former national team star Sara Grahn, who has played in 14 matches this season.

I really loved living and playing here and hoped to do it for a long time, so it was a tough message to get and there were a few tears, she said to local newspaper NSD after the news last week.

Against Djurgården, Axell only had to face 12 shots. Luleå scored one goal in each period and increased their lead in the series.

Luleå is four points ahead of second-place Modo, who also have one more game played.

Modo surprisingly lost at home to second-to-last HV71 with 1–2.

Third-place Frölunda, five points behind Luleå, won away against Brynäs with 6–3 after making it 4–1 in the third period.

Michelle Karvinen made her comeback after a four-game absence and scored a hat-trick.
