The deep-sea trench is approximately 1,200 kilometers long and lies at depths between 4,600 and 7,000 meters, according to a study published in the journal Nature, reports Sveriges Radio Ekot.

The site is located off the west coast of Australia in the southeastern Indian Ocean and was discovered by Chinese researchers.

According to the study, so many whale carcasses have accumulated there because the seabed forms a V-shaped deep-sea trench.
