Russia launched an attack near tennis star Oleksandra Oliynykova's home in Kyiv shortly before her trip to the Australian Open. A drone hit the house across the street, Oliynykova said.

Oleksandra Olijnykova, ranked 92nd in the world, lost in the first round of the tournament to reigning champion Madison Keys.

But the result was overshadowed by what happened before the match.

"There was an explosion right near my home and a drone hit the house across the street," she says, according to AFP.

"My apartment literally shook from the explosion."

The 25-year-old, who made her first Grand Slam appearance, dedicated the debut to her father, who serves in the Ukrainian military.

"I know it was his dream to see me on this track," she says.

After the loss, she faced the press wearing a shirt that read, "I need your help defending Ukrainian children and women, but I can't talk about this," according to The Athletic.
