Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland are already qualified for the intermediate round of the European Handball Championship.
On Tuesday evening, a fifth Nordic handball team, the Faroe Islands, also had a chance when they faced top-ranked Slovenia.
The Oslo suburb of Bærum was packed, and most of them were Faroese. Over 6,500 Faroese had bought tickets for the three group stage matches. That's from an island with just under 55,000 inhabitants.
The Faroe Islands did what they could to take a point from Slovenia and thus advance in the European Championship. It was 15–16 at half-time and the Faroese kept up a fairly even pace well into the second half, but they were ultimately forced to capitulate.
In the intermediate round in Malmö, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Switzerland and Slovenia will play.
