After a major power outage on New Year's Eve, the majority of electricity subscribers in Puerto Rico have regained power, reports energy company Luma Energy.
This means that almost 86 percent – 1.25 million electricity customers – of those affected regained power during the afternoon of New Year's Day.
Two of the capital San Juan's major airports, important water facilities, and at least 31 hospitals are among them, according to the company.
Puerto Rico is often affected by minor power outages due to poor wiring after Hurricane Maria in 2017. But the extensive power outage on New Year's Eve shut down almost the entire island.
