The French women's team won the World Championship gold in the relay by a wide margin. Julia Simon on the final leg shot full scores in both the prone and standing shooting, and before she set off on the final lap, she bowed to the cheering crowd.
Simon could then afford to celebrate thoroughly with both leaders and the public who followed the race along the track.
But when she skied near the spectator area to give high fives to fans, a grandstand suddenly collapsed right in front of the star, who quickly had to dodge her skis to avoid a collision.
I gave a high five and everyone cheered. It's part of the race. It's okay. I managed to stay on my feet, so it was okay, says Julia Simon to SVT.
The event organizer, Jürg Capol, says to the TV channel that they will review the safety routines around the audience after the incident.
Luckily, nothing happened. We will review it, he says.
France won the gold with a margin of over a minute down to the silver medalist Norway. Sweden took the bronze.
