The Czech Karolína Muchová put an end to world number two Aryna Sabalenka's long winning streak when they met in the quarterfinals of the China Open on Friday.
Sabalenka from Belarus, who competes under a neutral flag, had won 15 consecutive matches before Muchová won 2–1 in sets: 7–6 (7–4), 2–6, 6–4.
Muchová, ranked 49th, will now face OS gold medalist Zheng Qinwen in the semifinals of the China Open.
Sabalenka's 15 wins came, among other things, during the US Open, where she won.
Earlier in the season, the 26-year-old also won the Australian Open.
