Örebro had not taken a single point since 2024 became 2025.
Six straight losses after New Year's and the fall had been total for Örebro.
In late November, the team was second in the table, on the same points as leading Brynäs.
Before Thursday's round, Örebro had fallen to ninth place, 22 points behind Brynäs and only four points above the relegation line.
Then came a long-awaited victory.
Quick goals
Gustav Backström scored 1–0 in the first period, Ludvig Larsson increased in the second, and within two minutes in the third period came the decisive goal.
Christopher Mastomäki made it 3–0 and then played forward to Noah Steen for 4–0.
We had fun today and played on our instinct. We know what we're supposed to do, we've trained our basic game and our frames all season, then you have to use your skill and what we're good at. What we've paid for, says Mastomäki to TV4 Play.
Dramatic thriller
Örebro climbed to seventh place, one point behind sixth-placed Växjö, who defeated an injury-ridden Leksand with 2–1.
But it's tight, tight in the table.
From sixth-placed Växjö down to the relegation line and HV71 in 13th place, only six points separate.
It hasn't been this even since the SHL expanded to 14 teams.
The streak struggle, or should we call it the thriller, will tear the teams' supporters between hope and despair for the remaining 16 rounds.
HV71 took their third straight win when the team turned a 0–2 deficit into a 4–3 victory after overtime against series-leading Brynäs.
Henrik Borgström both equalized to 3–3 and decided in overtime.
Rögle won the SM final rematch over Skellefteå with 4–1 and climbed up to the tenth and final playoff spot.
