The Democratic Republic of the Congo is investigating the circumstances surrounding an influenza-like disease that has led to several deaths in recent weeks, according to the country's Health Minister Roger Kamba.
The authorities have so far confirmed over 70 deaths. Of the 27 people who died in hospital, ten died due to lack of blood transfusions and 17 due to respiratory problems, according to the minister.
The symptoms include fever, headache, and anemia.
Epidemiological experts are in the province of Kwango to investigate the disease.
