A conflict between the producers and tech giant Amazon is the reason why the next James Bond film is delayed, according to an investigation in the business newspaper Wall Street Journal.

When is the next James Bond film coming? It has been over three years since Daniel Craig played the British agent for the fifth and final time in "No Time to Die".

There has been speculation that young stars like Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Josh O'Connor would take over as Agent 007 on the big screen, but so far, no new actor has been presented in the lead role and no new film is planned.

25 films

This has raised questions in the film industry since the 25 Bond films made since 1962 belong to Hollywood's most lucrative film series.

Now, The Wall Street Journal reveals that the producer duo Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson, who manage the Bond rights, are in a deep conflict with Amazon, the tech giant that bought the film company MGM, distributors of Bond films for a long time.

This is about a cultural clash between Bond's producers who have very definite ideas about how Bond should be managed and marketed.

"Damn idiots"

They demand that the films absolutely must have a premiere on the big screen and have definite opinions about the plot of the productions, while Amazon sees Bond as just any "content", works with algorithm-driven marketing and would rather have big productions premiere on their own streaming service Prime Video.

Those people are damn idiots, Barbara Broccoli has said about Amazon to friends, according to the Wall Street Journal's anonymous sources.

Before the conflict is resolved, the couple Broccoli and Wilson refuse to give the green light for a new film, the newspaper writes.

Since the first Bond film "Agent 007 with a License to Kill" premiered in 1962, there have almost always been Bond films at regular intervals.

The latest film "No Time to Die" was delayed due to the pandemic. But before that, the last time it took a longer time between Bond films was the period 1989-1995, between Timothy Dalton's last film "License to Kill" and Pierce Brosnan's first, "GoldenEye".
