The 83-year-old Scot has accepted an unexpected coaching assignment. He will be in charge from the player's bench in Giuseppe Rossi's farewell match on March 22, according to Norwegian news agency NTB.
Of all the players who passed through during Ferguson's extremely successful period (1986-2013) as manager of Manchester United, Rossi was one of the most anonymous at Old Trafford.
The Italian played only 14 matches for United. Rossi, 38, ended his career in 2023, but will now get a farewell match.
Ferguson wants to be there as coach. He was my first coach when I signed for Manchester United as a 17-year-old. I only played under him for three years and I didn't play much, but he said yes immediately. It shows what kind of person he is, says Rossi according to English The Sun.
Rossi also played for clubs such as Newcastle, Villarreal, Levante, Celta Vigo, Genoa, Fiorentina, and Spal during his career.
He made 30 international appearances for Italy.
