The investigation was initiated after about ten reports were made to the cathedral chapter, according to diocesan jurist Lotta Lind.

The reports relate to what has been highlighted in the media and whether it is compatible with the priest's vows, such as following the church's order and carrying out the mission so that the church is built up and God's will is realized in the world, Lotta Lind tells the newspaper.

A decision on the matter may come no earlier than August 20.

A process like this usually takes a few months, Lind says.

Birgitta Ed, who is married to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M), has been employed as a priest and business developer at Strängnäs Cathedral Administration with Aspö since 2023. She will continue to work as planned while the investigation is ongoing, according to Strängnäs parish.

Aftonbladet revealed earlier this week that Ed's foundation is recruiting volunteers who will work for free to renovate a mansion outside Malmköping owned by Ed and a close friend of hers, in exchange for "a good network."

When Aftonbladet's reporter volunteered to do wall work in May, the Prime Minister was on site at the mansion to supervise the volunteers.

The Security Service was criticized because the reporter managed to get close to the Prime Minister without having to show identification or have his bag searched.
