She wrote the script, directed and stars. For 31-year-old “Billions” star Eva Victor, her directorial debut “Sorry, Baby” was a film she had to make. In many ways, I’ve been preparing to make it for years, she says.

If anyone thinks they recognize Eva Victor, it's probably because of the HBO series "Billions", where she appeared in the final seasons as one of the young financial geniuses.

In "Sorry, Baby," she plays Agnes, a college teacher trying to get over the trauma of being raped by an older colleague.

"After an incident like that, you wonder who you are. Someone has decided to do something with your body without your permission," she says.

It was a really cathartic experience to act in the film and to have the creative control. At the same time, to do this job well, you have to surrender to all the magic that happens in the moment and try to capture it.

“Been spoiled”

Eva Victor tells the story with humor, drama and intelligence about a woman's attempt to overcome her trauma.

I've been working on this film every day for the past four years. It feels like my dream has come true and I've been spoiled. What do I do now? I'm really excited to see what the future holds.

She hasn't made it easy for herself, writing the script, playing the lead role, and directing. And she emphasizes that she has kept a rock-solid grip on everything.

There is nothing in the film that I haven't planned. I've worked so hard on it that there is nothing in it that I haven't thought through or tested in other ways. Everything is the result of conscious choices. I can explain why every little detail in my film looks the way it does.

Deliberately vague

When Victor talks about the film, you can sense that she was abused – even if she expresses herself vaguely. The fact that she does not speak openly about her own experiences is a conscious choice.

I don't know if the world has all the right words to talk about it and we have problems with nuances, she notes.

Every experience of sexual trauma is different and everyone needs a voice to speak about what they have been through. I hope we can find a way to talk about it without being inconsiderate. I know how I want to talk about it and everything that is in the film. Watch it and you will know what I think.
