Alexander Isak and Anthony Elanga accompanied each other to Marbella, where the national team is training ahead of Saturday's international match against Luxembourg.
Jon Dahl Tomasson was quick to congratulate Isak on Sunday's victory in the English League Cup. Isak scored one of the goals in the 2-1 win over Liverpool at Wembley. A highly anticipated event for everyone at and around Newcastle United. The title was the first domestic one for the club since the FA Cup win in 1955 – 70 years ago.
"Should be proud"
He was naturally happy and glad. He should be proud of the moment. It's special to score a goal in a final and to also win a title... a big moment, says Jon Dahl Tomasson.
The national team coach was also fairly pleased.
First and foremost, he's happy to have won something. When you look back on your career, you look at what you've won. He's so important to the team. This title is something he'll be remembered for by everyone in Newcastle.
Tomasson was during his active playing career one of European football's most effective strikers. It gives weight to his words when he praises Alexander Isak.
The way he moves and that goal. Suddenly, he gets away from (Virgil) van Dijk in that situation. It was really a beautiful goal. He's a big name, not just in England but in the whole world, says Tomasson.
Takes more responsibility
He also praises Isak for taking more responsibility in the national team over the past year.
He's a good guy. When everyone else in Newcastle was celebrating, he said he wanted to come to the national team.
Or as the English-speaking Dane puts it.
Even play in rain in Spain.
The combination of the national team and Marbella is not a weather success. In November, the camp was broken off prematurely due to heavy rain. Monday's training had to be moved to another arena due to persistent rain.
