Marcus Carlsson's father and daughter drama "The Beekeeper" opens the 49th edition of the Gothenburg Film Festival.

The film takes place in Åmotfors in Värmland, where beekeeper Olof (Adam Lundgren) hides a serious illness from himself and his 14-year-old daughter.

The Gothenburg Film Festival has shown several of director Marcus Carlsson's previous works, such as the short film "Dirtbags" (2014) and the feature film "Love and Will" (2018).

"That 'The Beekeeper' will have its world premiere as the opening film at the Gothenburg Film Festival 2026 feels incredibly big and honorable. I hope everyone will feel the quiet power that Värmland has given the film. I am so grateful that it will now be able to meet its audience," says Marcus Carlsson in a press release.

The Gothenburg Film Festival will open on January 23, 2026.
