The back in fine company – one of four who have reached 600

A goal-scoring pass is just as valuable in the statistics as a goal. Veteran Victor Hedman wrote himself into the history books last night – he is now one of four Swedish defenders who have produced at least 600 assists in NHL hockey.

Fourteen minutes into Tampa's home game against Anaheim, Victor Hedman made a diagonal pass to Brandon Hagel, who immediately set up Anthony Cirelli – and it was a goal.

And a milestone was reached for Hedman.

Yes, it was a nice goal, so it felt extra good, says Hedman to Aftonbladet.

Only three Swedish defensemen are more prolific playmakers in NHL history: Nicklas Lidström (878), Erik Karlsson (656), and Börje Salming (637).

It's incredible to think that I was drafted in Montreal one moment and now I'm sitting here 600 assists later. I have a hard time putting into words what a stroke of luck it's been for me.

But it has a lot to do with the fact that I've had fantastic teammates to pass to and that the team as a whole has been so successful, says Hedman to Aftonbladet.

Tampa won the game against Anaheim 4–3 after a shootout.
