Antoine Semenyo was signed by Manchester City for around 800 million kronor last week. He has already started to pay off. The Ghanaian set up the first goal as City won the League Cup semi-final 2-0 away at Newcastle.

Semenyo was bought by Bournemouth and netted once on his debut last weekend, when City crushed Exeter 10-1 in the FA Cup.

Tuesday night's goal was all the more important. In the 53rd minute, Antoine Semenyo was in the right place and could have made it 1-0 from close range after Jérémy Doku's cross was touched on by Bernardo Silva. Semenyo later headed in another goal, but it was ruled out after a lengthy VAR review.

It was still 2–0 in the end, thanks to substitute Rayan Cherki, who scored in the ninth minute of added time.

Chelsea host Arsenal in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final on Wednesday, with the return legs to be played in early February.
