A series of incidents involving Israeli visitors has led to tensions in some of Thailand's most popular destinations, where tourists have come into conflict with locals.

On Tuesday, Thailand's Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow and Israeli Ambassador Alona Fisher-Kamm held a "candid discussion" on the subject.

Tourism is important to us, but it is not just about income, it is also about Thailand's dignity, said Sihasak after the meeting.

He stressed that visitors should “respect Thai traditions, culture and local ways of life.”

Fisher-Kamm, according to Sihasak, promised to intensify efforts to inform Israeli tourists about appropriate behavior in Thailand.
