Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin signed late on Tuesday a regulation that prohibits the sale of cannabis for recreational purposes.
It is unclear exactly when the new rules will come into effect, the regulation must first be published in the official newspaper Royal Gazette.
Thailand was the first country in Southeast Asia to decriminalize cannabis, when it was removed from the list of prohibited narcotics in June 2022. The measure caused a huge cannabis boom, with numerous stores opening in the tourist-heavy kingdom.
The Thai government has also previously made several announcements about plans to restrict recreational use and sales through new legislation, but so far none of the measures have been realized.
