A divided U.S. Supreme Court has upheld a redrawn electoral map in Texas that is seen as favoring President Donald Trump.

This summer, the Republican-controlled Texas state legislature unveiled a redistricting map that was seen as favoring its own party. This was done at the direct request of President Trump and aimed at securing five Republican seats in the House of Representatives in next year's congressional elections.

The move sparked strong reactions and criticism. California, for example, took a similar initiative to secure five seats for the Democrats.

Texas was also sued over the measure, which civil rights groups claimed discriminated against black and Hispanic voters. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court, which has now approved the electoral map, according to US media.

It is unusual for the maps of electoral districts to be redrawn; this usually happens in connection with the censuses held every ten years.
