According to Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD), many children start preschool or school without sufficient Swedish skills.
"It means early exclusion. Breaking this is one of the most powerful investments we can make in health, integration and cohesion," he says in a press release.
At most child health centers, children's general speech and language development is examined. The screenings the government wants to see should focus specifically on the Swedish language.
An investigator will propose how the tests should be designed. The proposals must be presented no later than August 24 of this year.

A mandatory language preschool has been under investigation for some time. A proposal is expected in June.
