Karin Elmegard fell from the Jetline and suffered life-threatening injuries when she hit the ground seven meters down. In the trial about the accident at Gröna Lund, she testifies about the fear of death. I think it might be the last thing I do.

She first sees an object fall from the side of the roller coaster train, where she is sitting at the back with her husband Mikael.

Then I realize that things are getting out of hand. I panic. It takes me a while to process and I start to feel terrified.

Her memories are blurry, but she remembers that she and her husband eventually fell out when the train hit a steep incline. By then, the safety bars had fully opened.

Micke grabs me but I fall. My memory is of me falling towards the grass, the grass approaching at breakneck speed.

Life-threatening injuries

About seven meters down she hits the ground and lands on a patch of grass. She breaks a number of bones in her body and suffers life-threatening injuries. Mikael Elmegard also falls out but hits a beam and manages to hold on.

I pull myself up the beam and manage to get my leg over and sit astride it, he says in his interrogation.

Karin Elmegard has difficulty speaking where she lies injured, but asks those who come forward where her husband is.

They point upwards and then I see you up there. That was the little thing that gave me security at that moment, she says, turning to her husband, who is sitting next to her in the courtroom but has one arm around her.

“A lot of beating”

If she had landed on something harder, she doesn't think she would have survived.

I've been beaten up quite a bit, as much as you can take and still survive, I think.

Another woman who fell died and a total of eight other people, including five children, were injured. A relative of the deceased woman was heard in court behind closed doors.

The companies that the prosecutors are demanding a corporate fine for alleged gross negligence causing death, gross negligence causing bodily harm and causing danger to others – Gröna Lund, Mekosmos and Göteborgs Mekaniska Werkstad), deny any wrongdoing.
