Tesla has not been able to reverse the downward trend in Europe in April, as shown by a review of car registration statistics from several European countries conducted by the news agency Bloomberg.

In the United Kingdom, only 512 electric cars from Tesla were registered in April, a decline of 62 percent to the same period a year earlier. However, the decline is even worse in Sweden, at minus 81 percent.

The same picture emerges from the registration statistics in Germany and France, the largest euro countries, where the decline has been measured at 59 and 46 percent, respectively.

The headwind in April follows a first quarter where Tesla had significant declines in sales volume in Europe's ten largest electric car markets, explained by a shift in the company's facilities to start producing the new Tesla Model Y.

However, the decline continued into April, indicating that Elon Musk's guest appearance in the Trump administration – having initiated a global trade war with tariffs and made a clear geopolitical shift towards allied countries such as Ukraine, Canada, and Denmark – has affected the demand for Tesla's cars.

Tesla's share has fallen by 42 percent since its historical peak in mid-last year. In futures trading ahead of Tuesday's stock market opening on Wall Street, it is again pointing downwards by almost 2 percent.
