Tesla's EU Sales Drop 49 Percent as Electric Car Market Grows

Tesla's sales within the EU plummeted by 49 percent during the year's first two months, compared to the same months the previous year. During the same period, the sales of electric cars in the EU increased by nearly 30 percent.

The number of newly registered Tesla cars in the EU fell to 19,046 during the first two months, which means that the American electric car manufacturer's market share in the region is now only 1.1 percent, according to the industry organization Acea.

The total EU sales of electric cars increased by 28.4 percent during the first months of the year to 255,489 vehicles.

Hybrid cars continue to be the largest market segment during the year's beginning, with 594,059 registrations and a total market share of 35.2 percent.
