The vehicles are the Model Y and Model 3 and were manufactured in China between 2019 and 2026. The cause is a safety issue with the door handles. There have been cases where passengers have been locked in the car.
The recall, which is being carried out on orders from Chinese authorities, also applies to other car manufacturers.
In total, it will involve four million cars in one of the largest recalls to date in the world's largest car market.
