There were 926,582 new cars registered in the EU in May, an increase of 1.6 percent compared to the corresponding month last year. If you include Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and the UK, the increase was 1.9 percent, to 1.1 million cars.
Tesla stands out with a decline of 27.9 percent in new car registrations at an annual rate – which means a decrease so far this year of 37.1 percent.
Volvo Cars' new registrations in May fell 18.8 percent to 27,694 cars.
The major German car brands have more wind in their sails. For VW Group, registrations increased by 3.4 percent compared to May last year. For BMW, the increase was 5.6 percent and for Mercedes-Benz it was 1.9 percent.
French Renault also had a tailwind, up 4.6 percent.
