It was after his loss in the second round of the French Championships that Vallejo made the misogynistic comment because he believed that the female referee could not withstand the audience's reactions in the match against Frenchman Moise Kouame.

It's hard for a woman to do that, Vallejo said.

Competition director Amelie Mauresmo says Vallejo will be fined 65,000 euros.

That's about half of his prize money. Because this is unacceptable. Such comments have no place here, she says.
