The American former tennis player Pam Shriver had twelve of her Grand Slam trophies stolen after she fled the fires in Los Angeles, she tells ESPN.

The trophies were in her car, which was parked outside the hotel where she temporarily resides. In the morning, she discovered that the car was gone.

I was just about to start carrying out stuff to pack them into the car, and then suddenly I realized, where is the car?

Shortly after, she saw shattered glass on the ground where the vehicle had stood.

It's sad in so many ways that some people act in this way towards individuals who are experiencing very difficult times, says Shriver to ESPN, where she is an expert commentator.

The 62-year-old, who cancelled her planned trip to the Australian Open in Melbourne due to the fires, won a total of 22 doubles titles in tennis' four largest tournaments during her career.
