A man in his 30s is sentenced to six years in prison for aggravated arson after burning down a multi-family house in Edsbyn at the beginning of October last year, reports P4 Gävleborg.

A person who was sleeping in the apartment was rescued from the fire thanks to a passerby.

The man was himself a tenant in the house – and according to the verdict, he had had problems paying the rent. He had also asked an AI service how to start a fire remotely.

The man is also sentenced to deportation with a ban on returning and is to pay over six million kronor in damages.
