The lions were found on September 18 in the Ndutu area. According to the authorities, initial investigations indicate that the animals died after ingesting poison. An expert investigation is underway to determine the cause of death and identify those responsible.
The area has long been plagued by conflicts between authorities and the local nomadic population, which have sometimes resulted in fatalities since the government began an eviction programme in 2022.
Since June, at least 20 elephants have also died in Kenya's Amboseli ecosystem, near the border with Tanzania, after suspected pesticide poisoning.
