“Lenke Rothman – a life as fabric”

She came alone to Malmö in 1945 from Bergen-Belsen. In her artistry, Lenke Rothman processed her memories by cutting, pasting, and sewing. On display at Malmö Art Hall, 21/9–19/1 2025.

“Romanticism – a way of seeing”

With works by Caspar David Friedrich and Eugène Dahl, plus a range of contemporary artists, the National Museum in Stockholm explains Romanticism and how it lives on today. On display 27/9–5/1 2025.

“Fanny and Alexander”

40 years after her film role as German Lydia, 86-year-old Christina Schollin now plays the grandmother in Jens Ohlin and Hannes Meidal's production of Ingmar Bergman's classic at Teater Galeasen in Stockholm. Premiere 1/10.

“The Railway – a musical about Didrik from Lillvattnet”

After its successes at Västerbottensteatern, Uppsala City Theatre is now staging Dag Thelander and Per Wickström's musical, based on Sara Lidman's Jernbanesvit. The smallholder's son Didrik wants to show what Lillvattnet has to offer. Premiere 2/10.

“Steel!”

In his new drama for Dalateatern, Lucas Svensson tells the story of steel mill life in the early 1990s. Lars Bringås directs. World premiere at Maximteatern in Borlänge 5/10.

“Master of couture – Azzedine Alaïa”.

Alaïa dressed supermodels and celebrities like Naomi Campbell and Michelle Obama with extreme tailoring precision. Sven Harry's Art Museum in Stockholm tops off its exhibition with 40 haute couture pieces. 10/10–16/2 2025.

“We won't pay, we won't pay”

Alexander Öberg dusts off Nobel laureate Dario Fo's 1970s success at Göteborgs stadsteater – hoping it will cause “subversive outbursts” in the present day. Premiere 15/11.

“Gustavia”

He was to become Gustav III's adopted brother. The ballet about the slave boy from the West Indies who was brought to Sweden as a royal gift is choreographed by Pär Isberg and directed by Amir Chamdin. French star Guillaume Diop takes the lead role. World premiere 18/10.

“In the footsteps of the stars: Britta Marakatt-Labba's embroidered worlds”

No one has embroidered Sami history like Britta Marakatt-Labba. Kin museum in Kiruna is showing around 80 of her works, created over 50 years, in the artist's first major retrospective exhibition. On display 23/10–16/3 2025.

“The long flight”.

Richard Adams' novel and the animated film of the same title were a success in the 1970s. Now, Alexander Mørk-Eidem is staging the rabbits' dramatic flight at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm. Swedish premiere 6/12.

“Yokai – Japanese creatures”, exhibition at the Ethnographic Museum in Stockholm. 13/9.

“E45 – a walking drama” by Marit Kapla, world premiere at Hagateatern in Göteborg 20/9.

"The Dictator" by Charlie Chaplin, Malmö City Theatre, 21/9.

Arkdes in Stockholm reopens after over a year of renovation. 27/9.

“Night watch” by Alejandro Leiva Wenger premieres at Göteborgs stadsteater. 27/9.

“Jean and Julie” after Strindberg, directed by Fredrik Benke Rydman, with world premiere at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm 4/10.

Gunnel Wåhlstrand's works are on display at Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde in Stockholm. 26/10–16/3 2025.

“I sacrifice myself” by Anna Vnuk, Stina Wirsén, and Ada Berger at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm, with world premiere 1/11.
