According to documents that the newspaper has taken part of, over 140 rental contracts are suspected to have been sold.
The man, who has been detained since March, is suspected of gross disloyalty towards his former employer and of gross crime against the Land Code. Furthermore, nine more people are suspected of various forms of crimes, including four people who are suspected to have purchased rental contracts.
I can confirm that we have made a police report in a case where it cannot be ruled out that a crime has been committed by a former employee in connection with rental brokerage, says Newsec's communications manager Elin Edelström to Hem & Hyra.
The crimes are believed to have been committed between 2022 and 2024, which has great significance for those who purchased rental contracts, notes the newspaper. Previously, it was illegal to sell rental contracts but not to buy, but since 2019, even the purchase of rental contracts has been criminalized.
