Teenagers Charged in Fatal Växjö Shooting Mistaken Identity Suspected

The instigators of the murder of a 30-year-old woman in Växjö in December had mistaken the person, the prosecutor suspects. Now a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl are being prosecuted for the murder, as well as four others who in various ways protected, helped and instructed the young people.

The Växjö couple had just returned from the gym and entered their apartment when the door was torn open by the teenagers, who began shooting with each pistol, according to the prosecutor.

The woman was shot to death, while the man was hit in the hand. Neither of them had any connection to criminality.

The reason why they were shot was likely due to their surname. Prosecutor Marika Jönsson believes that the instigators took the wrong person.

Surname

You have the same surname as a person with a criminal history here in Växjö. You are not related but just have the same surname, she says.

Two of the defendants have a connection to the criminal Foxtrot network, and the prosecutor's hypothesis is that the motive for the Växjö shooting was revenge for a previous crime directed against a relative of a person with criminal connections.

The girl and the boy came from Jönköping and Märsta, respectively, and had, according to the prosecutor, not met before. The boy had been promised a large sum of money for the shooting, the prosecutor believes can be proven, and she believes that the girl was also likely recruited to shoot for payment.

The girl has confessed to shooting during the interrogation, but claimed that the intention was not to kill. The boy has confessed to shooting, but only at the man.

Accessory to murder and instigation

A 29-year-old man is being prosecuted, among other things, for accessory to murder. He has, according to the indictment, handed over money for expenses related to the crime, bought a train ticket, and handed over pistols.

Another 15-year-old boy is being prosecuted for instigating the murder together with another person. According to the indictment, he recruited the boy who shot and gave instructions.

Charges are also being brought for gross protection of a criminal against a woman and a man who in various ways have helped the girl and the boy to hide and get rid of evidence.

A man from Sweden who has been detained in Turkey is suspected of having ordered the murder assignment in Växjö. Any charges against him will be brought separately.
