It was 15-year-old Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux who was seen wearing a hat with the police outside the Louvre after the spectacular jewel heist. Now he is coming forward.

By chance, he walked right into world events, writes the AP, which met him for an interview. Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux describes himself as a fan of both Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot but had gone to the Louvre to visit the museum with his family.

But it was closed. We didn't know it had been a coup.

A few minutes later, he was photographed by AP photographer Thibault Camus.

We didn't know the picture was being taken. We were just passing by.

Speculation spread online that he was a mysterious detective. When Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux discovered that his picture had gone viral, he chose to lie low.

I didn't want to immediately say it was me. This picture was a mystery and I wanted to keep it that way.

A friend told him that the picture had been seen by five million people and his mother saw that it had been published in the NY Times.

It doesn't happen every day, says Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux, explaining that he was contacted by cousins in Colombia and friends in Australia.

What about the style? Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux had dressed as he usually does. For the past year, he has been drawing his clothing inspiration from black and white photographs of fictional detectives and statesmen in suits from the 20th century.

I like to be chic. I go to school like this.
